Relaxing and calm are not the usual sensations you feel when you step inside a childcare centre, but this is exactly how we felt whilst inside the gorgeous, light-filled, nature-inspired building in Kambah, Canberra.
Everything on the property has been specially designed to draw upon the natural concepts of beauty, harmony, simplicity and order. It provides children with the freedom to follow their natural tendencies towards independence, exploration, co-operation, order, repetition, imagination and communication.
In the Nido, or nest, bubbas can enjoy tummy time on toasty-warm floors, and when they flip over, they can look up at themselves in a mirror on the roof.
As babies grow into toddlers, they are encouraged to be independent. Teachers support the development of voluntary, controlled movements like using velcro, buttons and zippers. These little whippersnappers even get to eat with real glassware and metalware.
The big kids – the three to six-year-olds - live in the Casa, or children's house, where maths, geography, science and language are brought to life.
The centre also has a strong focus on sustainability making it the perfect fit for Tetra organic bedding. Not only is it Canberra's first early learning centre to use cloth nappies, and now with our organic baby mattresses and pillows in the sleep rooms, children are also given the opportunity to sleep better naturally.
